Reading is awesome! Don't you think? And I think I'm not the only one because it seems that this activity is loved by millions of people!
Yet there are those who have yet to discover the true joys and benefits of indulging in a great book...
Whichever group you're in, it never hurts to be reminded just how wonderful the written word can be! So today, l'm pleased to share with you my top 5 reasons why I love to read.
My Top 5 Reasons Why I Love to Read
01 Travel to exotic places
I used to travel quite often in my child hood and during my school years. Now that I'm a grown-up with a family and
responsibilities, I find it more difficult to make it happen as often as I would like...

The advantage with a good book is that I can travel the world and time whenever I'm in the mood for it. Without having to worry about the budget, passports, vaccines, insurance, ...

And besides, if ever I have the happiness to visit this place, I will have a head start!

Tip #1: Just pick up a book that tells about visiting various countries. Around The World In 80 Days is a fantastic example of how to "travel" from your armchair and fulfill your dreams!
02 Expand My mind about how others live
For many, their own culture is the extent of their sociological knowledge. However, I personally think there's a whole world of people out there who think, behave and live differently from me!
Wouldn't it be fascinating and mind opening to discover how others live without having to disturb anyone?
Tip #2: Reading has the capacity to introduce you to people from all the cultures in the world and all walks of life. A book likes Memoirs of a Geisha do just that!
03 Use reading to relax
In my opinion, the serenity of reading may be matched only by activities like yoga or a solo walk in nature. So, if you want to relax and experience serenity, you can also try picking up a book!
Of course, not every type of book will help with this...
Tip #3: Find those that tap into that desired mood for you. A favored author or a series you love just might bring you a little closer to bliss. The Little Prince is one of mine.
04 Learn Something New
Once in a while, I really love to dive deep into historical novels. That's my favorite way to learn amazing facts without much effort and while clearing my head!
Tip #4: Although you may not plan to learn about unusual subjects, reading can actually help you discover topics that pique your interests and galvanize you to dig further into a subject. Have you read (or see) Pirate's Passage? This is by far our favorite story here at home!
05 De-focus from life's turmoil
Reading is my life's sweet escape, ... at least for a couple of hours! I just have to grab my book and here I am in a whole new world, far from my day-to-day life!
Tip #5: Regardless of the turmoil and chaos that may cross your path, you can re-focus your energies on reading an engaging book that's full of adventure or laughter. Summer by the Sea
is a must read PLUS the protagonist shares some of her secret recipes...
Reading rejuvenates, regardless of your situation.
When you open a book, you open your life to endless possibilities for joy and serenity.
Life will be more satisfying than you've ever imagined.
And you, what are YOUR top reason why you LOVE reading?
Book lovers, this is for you!
I crafted a unique tool that will help you keep track and take full advantage of all the books you will read from now on!
I read to escape. Whether I get to play detective and solve a mystery, be a wizard and fly on a dragon, hang out at the lake and laugh with women friends, fall in love – over and over and over again, or step back in time – it is all something I can do from an arm chair.
I agree 100% with you Anna Maria!
Reading open an awesome world where everything becomes possible.
I wish you the best of adventures in your next escape 😉
I love reading to have conversations with people – this is especially true (for me) in memoir and poetry. I also read to escape. Just pure pleasurable escape. I read to make friends by joining book clubs! I have one this Friday night, for example!
Love this post!
That’s right Julie,
Reading is a great way to bring people together.
I never went to a book club, but my mom, sister and I used to share books then we love to share our thoughts afterward.
Keep sharing the joy of reading!
I used to read voraciously. Then parenting, life stress, and increasingly poor eyesight – plus the library always wanted their books back 😂Anyway, life’s calmed down, reading glasses, the library app, and large print are helping me love reading again. Your enthusiasm is contagious.
Thanks Lilian!
I’m glad to hear you found solutions to your struggles!
As for me, since I spend most of my days in front of my computer screen, I still need my paper books! And I love visiting second-hand stores just for their books section 😉
Happy reading for years to come!
