The day after Thanksgiving is commonly referred to as “Black Friday”. This day is traditionally one of the busiest shopping days of the year and for many signifies the first day of Christmas shopping.
While the term black Friday was originally used to represent the day in which retailers returned to profitability, many who work in the retail industry use this term as a way to describe the crowds and chaos which accompany Christmas shopping on the day after Thanksgiving. Likewise consumers expect significant sales to go along with the large crowds which flock to stores!
Then comes Cyber Monday! Specifically, the Monday following Thanksgiving weekend is one of the busiest days for online retailers. Dubbed “Cyber Monday” by some, online merchants track one of the largest one-day spikes in sales on this particular day.
More and more people are turning to online shopping this days. It’s easy to understand because it offers many positives:
- Convenience – you shop in the comfort of your own home at any time of the day or night you choose;
- Selection- thousands of stores at your fingertips;
- Security- contrary to what many believe, online transactions with secure sites can be the more secure than handing your credit card to a sales associate, or walking through a mall and subjecting yourself to possible theft;
- And perhaps most inviting, the opportunity for substantial savings!
