[🔍] Every time I think I need MORE…

By Stephie

Hello and welcome to my experience design lens series, Reader 👋

Not theory.
Not frameworks.
But the real decisions underneath the work.

The parts most people don’t see.

Looking for a previous issue? They are all available to read on my website.

🔍 🔍 🔍

Something caught my attention this week.

A training called:

How to Sell When Nothing Works

And it made me laugh a little.

Because my brain has a very annoying habit.
Whenever something isn’t working…
I immediately want to create something.

A new product.
A new offer.
A new idea.
A new plan.

But if you’ve been reading my emails lately, you understand why I’m making a conscious effort to resist temptation and stay focused on one project at a time.

So I can’t wait to see Elizabeth Goddard’s take on that in her free training next week.

And to be fair, creating has never been easier!

So you’d think we’d all be swimming in success by now.

And yet…
here we are 🤪

The funny thing is that every time I think I need MORE…
life seems determined to point me back to what’s already there.

A few weeks ago, I thought I needed another offer.
Turns out I needed to look at my checkout process.

The sale wasn’t missing.
The path was.

The Evidence Log started the same way.
I thought I needed more clarity.

What I really needed
was a way to see what was already happening.

And one of my Snapshot clients thought she needed more offers.

What she actually needed
was a clearer path
so people could immediately see where they belonged.

Different situations.

Same lesson.

Not a new offer.
A better experience.

Not more traffic.
An easier way to say yes.

Not another product.
A moment where someone thinks:

“Ahhh… this is exactly what I need.”

But you know what?

I spend a lot of time helping people spot this stuff.

And I’m still catching myself doing it too!

Which is probably why experience design has become such a big deal for me.

Not because I want to optimize everything.
Quite the opposite.

Because the more I learn about it,
the more I realize most businesses don’t need a complete overhaul.

They need someone willing to pay attention.

To notice where people hesitate.

Where they get confused.

Where they quietly leave.

And then remove one friction at a time.

The bottleneck isn’t always more.

The bottleneck is often where we’re looking.

Talk again soon!

PS: Sometimes the biggest breakthrough isn’t finding the answer.
It’s realizing you’ve been trying to solve the wrong problem.

NOTE: I’m moving things around in the backend to make room for a new project. Can you help me spot “bad experiences” regarding my site, your members’ area, communications, or whatever? I would really appreciate your help with this! It will make it so much easier for me to fix and improve everything that needs attention. Thank you!

Disclosure: From time to time, I will include links in the emails that would include promotions for my own products or affiliate products, meaning I get paid when you buy the product. However, I only ever mention products I love and would recommend whether I was being compensated or not. Always use due diligence when buying anything and remember, what works for me may not always work for you!
