🔍 What comes first…?

By Stephie

Hello and Welcome to Behind the Friction, Reader!

Every Friday, I pull back the curtain on something I’ve noticed while working on my own business… hoping it helps you see yours a little differently too.

Looking for a previous issue? They are all available to read on my website.

Quick question: What comes first?

🥚 The product?
🐔 Or the experience?

For a long time, my answer looked something like this…

“Ooooh… that’s a fun idea!”

opens PowerPoint

😂 Or…

“I wonder if I could build that.”

opens Canva

The thing came first.
Then I’d figure out what people could actually
do with it.

Not exactly backwards…

…but maybe not the easiest way either.

Now, take the Evidence Log.

It didn’t start with:

“I should build a Custom GPT.”

It started with me being annoyed
because I kept forgetting my own progress.

Every week I’d think…

“Did I actually accomplish anything?”

So I solved my own problem.
The GPT simply became the vehicle.

Same with the Toy Box I created to enhance my last Wednesday newsletter.

The goal wasn’t:

“Let’s build a game.”

The goal was:

“How can I give someone a tiny moment of curiosity?”

The game was just the way to deliver it.

The funny thing is…

When I look back now, I realize this isn’t a new way of thinking.
It’s the common thread behind almost everything I’ve enjoyed creating the most.

P.S. The biggest breakthroughs rarely arrive with fireworks. They usually start as one small realization. On its own, it might not seem important. But collect enough of those moments, and suddenly you can see patterns, habits, and progress you never noticed before. That’s exactly what the Evidence Log was designed to help you do.

NOTE: I’m moving things around in the backend to make room for a new project. Can you help me spot “bad experiences” regarding my site, your members’ area, communications, or whatever? I would really appreciate your help with this! It will make it so much easier for me to fix and improve everything that needs attention. Thank you!

Disclosure: From time to time, I will include links in the emails that would include promotions for my own products or affiliate products, meaning I get paid when you buy the product. However, I only ever mention products I love and would recommend whether I was being compensated or not. Always use due diligence when buying anything and remember, what works for me may not always work for you!
