[πŸ”] Pattern #4: Too many open loops

By Stephie

April 17, 2026

Hello and welcome to my experience design lens series, Reader πŸ‘‹

Not theory.
Not frameworks.
But the real decisions underneath the work.

The parts most people don’t see.

Looking for a previous issue? They are all available to read on my website.

πŸ” πŸ” πŸ”

Over the past few weeks, I noticed something on my side.

Not a lack of ideas.
Not a lack of motivation.

Just… too many open loops.

Things I started but didn’t fully close.
Directions I explored but didn’t fully commit to.
Pieces that still
exist… but don’t quite fit anymore.

From the inside, it feels like progress.

I’m thinking.
Adjusting.
Re-evaluating.

But from the outside?

Nothing really moves.

Because my attention is split across too many β€œmaybe this”…
instead of one clear β€œthis”.

Can you relate?

Well, I know for sure I’m not alone, hence why I’m adding it to my pattern series!

A good way to spot this is when you realize something feels off, but you just let it hang there instead of addressing it.

That’s a bit different from feeling stuck when you’re not sure what to do…

It can show up in all areas of your life, but in a business context, it’s when you’re trying to move forward while still holding on to too many versions of your work at once.

That’s when things start to feel heavy…

Decisions take longer.
Clarity gets blurry.
Momentum slows down.
And your customers are confused.

Sometimes the shift isn’t about finding a better idea.

It’s about closing a few loops.

Letting something be done.
Or letting something go.

I’ve been thinking about turning this pattern work into something you could actually use on your own. A quick way to see what’s really getting in the way right now. Would that be helpful for you?
Yes, I’d love that πŸ”₯
Maybe, depending on how it works πŸ€”
Not really ❌

PS: An open loop doesn’t just sit there. It keeps taking a bit of your attention until it’s resolved. I’d love for you to share what’s still β€œopen” on your side right now. I’m here to help you go from “I know” to “I’ve got this!”

NOTE: I’m moving things around in the backend to make room for a new project. Can you help me spot “bad experiences” regarding my site, your members’ area, communications, or whatever? I would really appreciate your help with this! It will make it so much easier for me to fix and improve everything that needs attention. Thank you!

Disclosure: From time to time, I will include links in the emails that would include promotions for my own products or affiliate products, meaning I get paid when you buy the product. However, I only ever mention products I love and would recommend whether I was being compensated or not. Always use due diligence when buying anything and remember, what works for me may not always work for you!
