Self-care isn’t just about spending time indoors and having morning routines all for yourself. Sometimes, you want to step a bit out of your comfort zone and experience new things. This can be something you do alone or with loved ones and friends. The best thing to do this fall is to enjoy nature and get outdoors for new (or beloved) activities.
Find Fall Celebrations
Take a look at any local fairs, festivals, or carnivals in the fall. These often include fun activities like hay rides, bobbing for apples, or corn mazes. Our favorite one is harvest rides. Also, if you find a place with hot-air balloon rides, tell me, it must be fantastic doing this in the fall!
Those can be a fun way to get outside and enjoy the season with people you love the most!
Go Apple Picking
I rediscover how fun apple picking can be after my son’s first birthday. Ever since, we never miss an opportunity, whether with friends or our family alone. It is a great time to explore new things, even the simplest of activities.
For days and weeks to come, we have lots of easy, healthy and delicious snacks on hand!
Head to the Pumpkin Patch
Instead of buying your pumpkin at a grocery store, why not go to an actual pumpkin patch? I’m sure you can find a place not too far from home where you can walk around and look at all the various sizes and shapes of pumpkins to pick out your favorite one.
Bonus – it is also a great opportunity for some fall pictures with the family! And if you need tips to take better pictures, those you’ll find here also works great during fall!

Go on a Fall Hike
If you want to try outdoor exercise, hiking allows you to enjoy that crisp, seasonal air, see how the landscape has changed around you, and will let you take good care of your health by getting your blood pumping at the same time. Of course, hiking can be a fantastic family activity. But why not see it as a me-time activity once in a while?

Collect Fall Treasures
While enjoying any outdoor activities, why not bring a “treasure bucket” to collect your finds? From warm reds and oranges leaves to pine cones; branches and pebbles, you’ll find all kinds of fall treasures worth bringing home. There are a lot of really fun craft projects that your kids will love to do with all that!
Great advice. If I take a camera with me, I am more likely to stay out longer and pay more attention to what is around me. I may even be looking for something that I do not see every day. As the seasons change, the scenery changes with it.
That’s so true Doug, thank you!
Everything looks so different through the camera eye.
But as for me, I tend to fall in another world when I start taking pictures. That makes great souvenirs for an album for sure, but that’s not always good to enjoy the present moment with my family!
